Square footage, ceiling height, whether the popcorn was ever painted, and the finish you want afterward (smooth or a light texture) set the price. The estimate is free and itemized.
It might, if the texture went up before the mid-1980s. A sample should be tested before any scraping. If it comes back positive, removal is a job for a licensed abatement contractor, not a renovation crew.
Removal is wet and dusty work, which is why the room is sealed with plastic, floors and anything left in place are covered, and everything is cleaned up when we finish.
Under the popcorn there is usually rough drywall, so the ceiling is skim-coated and sanded smooth, or given a light texture if you prefer, then primed and painted.
You can, but it keeps the dated look, and painted popcorn is much harder to remove later. If you plan to remove it eventually, now is the easier time.
